As part of Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, year 9 at The Leigh UTC participated in a Future Transport Challenge on Thursday 7th November.
Facilitated by Phil Edwards of Weald Technology Limited, two separate workshops were held during the day.
Beginning with discussing sustainable transport, students went on to explore a number of international case studies looking at traffic congestion, air quality, energy usage and possible solutions to transport issues.
Last Thursday year 8 and 9 completed in District Cross Country which took place at the Leigh Academy. We took our largest ever team of 19 students.
All students were extremely well behaved and each student gave their all when taking part. It was very pleasing to see how our students held their own, as they competed against some very strong grammar and private schools.
Each race had between 60 – 80 students involved. James and Ewan will both probably go through to the next stage to represent our district in the County Championships later on in the year. Here are some our our results – weil done to all who took part!
This year to raise funds for Children in Need Staff took part in a Bake Off against each other. Staff paid to enter the competition with all the funds going to Children in Need. Staff and students voted and there was a 3 way tie for the winner – Congratulations go to Miss Ibrahim, Mr Orsborne and Mr Baldock.
A huge congratulations to our former student Harry who has just graduated from Siemens.
Harry is now a fully qualified Siemens Train Technician and is currently working on Heathrow Express and TFL Rail.
Well done Harry!
