Attendance and Punctuality Counts

As we start the first term of the New Year we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of regular and screen-shot-2017-01-09-at-18-23-51punctual attendance here at The Leigh UTC. There is no doubt that attendance and achievement go hand in hand. There are some simple rules, which will help:

  • Should your child be absent you must inform the attendance line before 9.00am that morning and then on each day of any subsequent absence.
  • If you have been to see the doctor, please let The Leigh UTC have any copies of appointment cards and / or prescriptions or medication. This can help The school decide how to record the absence. The Leigh UTC decides how to record the absence, either authorised or unauthorised.
  • You should not take your child out of The Leigh UTC for a holiday during term time. If you go ahead with the holiday, The Leigh UTC may apply to Kent County Council to issue a Penalty Notice and a fine may follow.

At The Leigh UTC we expect 100% attendance. If there are concerns regarding a student’s attendance at The Leigh UTC we will contact you to discuss the reasons that may be preventing your child from attending. The Leigh UTC will offer meetings, support and advice to help resolve these concerns and a return to regular attendance.

After any intervention, by The Leigh UTC a student’s attendance remains poor the school may refer to the Trust’s Attendance & Welfare Officer for further investigation. At The Leigh UTC we expect all students to aim for 100% attendance.

Being late for school reduces learning time:

If you are 15 minutes late every day you will miss 2 weeks of learning each year!
