Following an Ofsted Inspection on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd February 2017, The Leigh UTC has been judged ‘Good with Outstanding features’. Click here to view the Ofsted report.

Principal Steve Leahey said: “Everyone connected to The Leigh UTC is immensely proud of the school and this Ofsted report recognises the high standards that have been achieved in a relatively short space of time, particularly given the framework which is so much more demanding than previous ones. A great many UTCs have suffered under this new framework.  We have shown already that we are the best performing UTC in the country and it was heart-warming to know that we were within a whisker of the outstanding judgement overall.  This is a tremendous achievement and is one that The Leigh UTC truly deserves. I am thrilled that the inspectors obviously recognised the tireless hard work, commitment, dedication and diligent professionalism that occur every day across our UTC.

It is most gratifying to read that ‘Leigh Academies Trust, governors and leaders provide strong direction and leadership.  In partnership with staff and employers, they are well on the road to establishing the school as a centre of Science, technology, engineering and mathematics excellence’.

We are delighted the inspection team recognised ‘The Leigh UTC makes a real difference for its pupils and surrounding area’ with ‘the promotion of pupils’ personal development and welfare being recognised as Outstanding.

The inspectors were also extremely impressed with pupils’ conduct around the school being noted as calm and orderly’. ‘students show respect to adults and one another.  ‘Their application to learning is often exemplary’.

Simon Beamish CEO Leigh Academies Trust commented “It is pleasing to receive so many positive comments from Ofsted. However, regardless of what the schools’ regulator says, we know that The Leigh UTC is exceptional, offering innovative opportunities to young people that aren’t available elsewhere. We are delighted to be able to open these chances up to Year 7 pupils from September at our new Inspiration Academy, connected to The Leigh UTC. In our first year, places are already heavily over-subscribed. Also, places are still available in Year 10 and Year 12 next year. Those who are interested in joining The Leigh UTC should contact us today”

Mr Leahey added “I would like to also thank parents for their continued support and contribution to The Leigh UTC and throughout the inspection process.”
