Since opening in September 2014 The Leigh UTC has had many enquires with regards to apprenticeship programmes, apprenticeship reforms and opportunities to develop related partnerships. Starting in September 2016, SEMTA and The Leigh UTC are pleased to announce a Partnership to offer Advanced Apprenticeship Programmes including HNC at Level 4 for Manufacturing Engineering.
A number of local SMEs attended a briefing yesterday at the UTC where we discussed Trailblazers, the proposed apprenticeship levy and the associated benefits to business of taking on an apprentice. There is a real appetite from our business partners to be part of this programme and ideally they would look to recruit UTC students to take up the vacancies.
Principal, Steve Leahey and Director of Apprenticeships, Jay Wright spoke about the technical qualifications along with the added pastoral support trainees would receive at the UTC. Malcolm Healy from SEMTA explained how the partnership would work and the active roles that each party would take. SEMTA are following up all interested businesses with a visit to discuss personal requirements.
We are very excited by this opportunity as it will provide our students with through routes into employment across the North Kent area.
