Year 12 Trip to Mercedes Benz

Sparshatt Truck and Van has been working closely with The Leigh UTC building a healthy working relationship and even being our partner Enterprise Advisor. The following opportunity is a result of a successful interview day during the year 12 Route to Success Week, with potential for work experience and possible invites to apply for their apprenticeship programme.

Last week a group of year 12 students were invited to Sparshatt Truck and Van in Dartford. They are working as an Independent company with the franchise of Mercedes Benz. The students were given the opportunity to have a look behind the scenes. The day started with a presentation explaining the history of Sparshatt and sharing the missions and goals of the company.

We were then given a tour of their superb facility and our tour guides were technicians that work there and have an in depth knowledge of the company. The students were motivated to ask questions and during part of the tour they were able to see technicians working on site.

The students then had lunch ordering anything they wanted from several food shacks they the company hired for their open day. The students that attended the trip came out very motivated and informed about a career working as a technician for Mercedes Benz. We would like to thank Sparshatt for this opportunity and we are looking forward to all the good work that will be done between us in the future.

UTC Sports Day

Here are some highlights from our very first #UTC Sports Day. It was such a fantastic event for us all at The Leigh UTC.
Seeing the students cheering each other on, working together and taking risks was one of the highlights of the year by far.

The rain clouds did not stop us, everyone involved had a great day.

A huge thank you to our fantastic PE team: Mr Young, Mr Baldock and Miss Chapman. Not only for the hard work on the day but all of the hard work that has lead up to the event to ensure the day ran smoothly and our students were given a wonderful experience.

Year 7 Induction Day

It was wonderful to welcome our new year 7 students to the Leigh UTC today as they took park in their induction.
Throughout the day students took park in a range of activities that helped them to solve the mystery of the lost Principal. In Science they investigated a crime scene completing a range of forensic experiments.
In English they analysed transcripts and character profiling whilst in Maths they completed probability puzzles based on who they thought the suspects were.  Many astute students solved the mystery and found out that cunning Mrs Fox our Careers and LRC manager was the villain.
This was an excellent opportunity for all of our year 7s to experience our interdisciplinary approaches to learning. all students collected class chart points on their IB cogs which will be added to their class chart totals at the start of the year.  At the end of the day we proudly awarded certificates linked to our IB character profile to students that had demonstrated these attributes consistently throughout the day.
We are really looking forward to seeing them all again September. We hope that they have enjoyed the day as much as we have.
