Student Dress Code

At Leigh UTC Dartford, we uphold professionalism and a businesslike approach in all aspects of school life. All students are expected to wear smart, professional attire that aligns strictly with the Academy’s uniform and dress code at all times – including when travelling to and from the Academy. The definition of professional dress is set by the school and is not open to personal interpretation. Clothing must be appropriate for a professional learning environment and meet all relevant health and safety standards.

The following dress code/uniform policy takes the above into consideration but also allows students to show a level of individuality and the need to effectively represent Leigh UTC Dartford in the local community and workplace. We believe that all students should take pride in their appearance. Smart dressing conveys positive feelings in terms of commitment and attitude to work and it also enables students to show that they fully embrace the UTC’s ethos.

This policy should be read in its entirety. However, some of the key points which apply to all phases include:

  • Blazers must be kept in a smart, clean appearance. They must be worn when moving around the building, during line ups and on the way to and from the Academy. Sleeves must not be rolled up. Only academy-issued badges may be worn.
  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Top buttons must always be fastened and there should be no logos.
  • Skirts must be a maximum of 2 inches above the knee length and not shortened by rolling them up at the waist.
  • Belts should be black, plain and functional. No oversized buckles or clasps, studs or trimmings.
  • Own clothes should not be worn on site at any times
  • No writing or doodling on legs/arms/skin.
  • Any adaptations to the policy due to extreme weather will be communicated with parents and students.
