RE: Online Learning
COVID-19 is bringing about huge challenges for all of us. At the Leigh UTC we are trying our best to uphold our high standards of education whilst also ensuring that our buildings are safe places to be. We respect any decision that a parent makes to follow government guidelines and we will authorise any absence related to precautionary measures that you take. In return, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and understanding at this time.
The guidance from the government is updating daily and we continue to monitor the situation closely. We understand that members of our community are self-isolating and are working from home and we are continuing with ‘business as usual’ for those on site.
It is important that we uphold our high standards of education and our willingness to embrace new technologies will support us in doing so for those not able to attend the UTC each day. For students currently working from home, and in the event that The Leigh UTC has to close, we are working hard to ensure students are able to access their learning online through Google Classroom. Students and staff have received additional training to ensure that work is easily communicated and accessible.
We have linked each subject’s activities and existing Classrooms to one main year group ‘Study Room’ or for P16 students ‘Independent Learning’. Students can access each of the Google classrooms with the code:
**Please contact the school for Classroom code or speak to your son/daughter**
Year 7, 8 and 12 students have knowledge organisers for each subject that can be used to support home learning. The can be found here.
Some other useful online learning resources are:
Should the Leigh UTC partially or fully close, a full schedule of work will be shared for each year group to support the learning and to aid students in being able to manage their day. We thank parents in advance for all the support that they give in ensuring that our students can commit time to their education even if they are at home.
Our students use Google Classrooms regularly however for students guides / tutorials to Google Classroom please click here.

We would advise that mobile devices are not ideal and students should be working on a PC, laptop or Chromebook where possible.
Thank you once again for your support and understanding in these unprecedented times.
