Year 13 students at The Leigh UTC recently had the opportunity to attend one of two virtual presentations by Lana Jay, Early Career Talent Manager of leading logistics company, Europa Worldwide.
Logistics are vital to the UK economy, have made a huge contribution during the pandemic and will become even more important as regards the import and export of goods post Brexit. Students were interested to learn about what this business offers for young people locally; Europa’s Head Office is in Dartford, close to The Leigh UTC.
Students learnt about the company’s Rapid Career Development Programme where young account management trainees at the age of 18 can earn a graduate level salary plus commission and a company car.
Lana elaborated upon the qualities that they look for in young employees and gave examples of how young people who have joined the company within the past few years have progressed career-wise.
She explained that Europa Worldwide recruits on personality with key qualities required being willing to work hard, self motivation, ambition and a positive mental attitude. The company likes to see that its new recruits are proactive and can display people skills. The recruitment process includes an assessment centre.
Students went on to ask a number of mature and informed questions after the presentations and showed themselves to be business ready.
In summary, when asked which three words would best describe the roles, Lana stated exciting and difficult but rewarding.
Thank you to Lana and Europa Worldwide for educating students on this positive possible pathway.
