Dear Parents and Carers,
RE: update on leadership at The Leigh UTC.
Mr Leahey will be stepping down from his post as Principal at The Leigh UTC to take semi-retirement at the end of August. This is after a decade of exceptional leadership in this position: two years as Principal Designate and eight years as Principal. Mr Leahey’s passion for the benefits of a STEM education has been crucial to the success of The Leigh UTC and Inspiration Academy. He will be sorely missed.
The Leigh UTC was the very first UTC in the UK to be developed within a successful multi-academy trust and the first to open a key stage three feeder annex. It is accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School for the Middle Years Programme and Careers-related Programme. It offers a broad range of qualifications including GCSEs, BTECs, A Levels, IB Diplomas and T Levels. Uniquely, it also offers advanced apprenticeships at post-16.
The extensive range of business links cultivated by Mr Leahey has continually enhanced the curriculum opportunities available to students. Destinations information each year shows how our students go on to achieve impressive places at university, further training and employment pathways in relevant STEM sectors. This has helped to make The Leigh UTC heavily oversubscribed with more than 800 students now on roll.
The Trust will begin a national recruitment search to find a replacement for My Leahey from Monday and hopes to appoint by the end of April for a September start. We will keep parents fully updated with developments. For now I’m sure you will join me in thanking Mr Leahey for his inspiring leadership and for providing so many excellent opportunities for young people during his 17 successful years as part of Leigh Academies Trust in Dartford. He intends to write to you himself about his decision next week.
