Year 11 Study Leave

Exam hall image

I am writing this with a heavy heart, as today will be your son/daughter’s last day in Year 11 at the UTC. Their journey has been astronomical: coming in as the first ever UTC year 7 cohort, and today they finish that journey together. They have taken this journey in their stride and have developed into young adults who are ready to make the next step in their lives.

As a UTC, we want to inspire our students into being the next generation of engineers, poets, writers, scientists, historians, artists, mathematicians and free-thinkers; I believe our students have acquired the skills through the years, developing their ambitions and striving to achieve anything they set their mind to. We at the UTC would also like to thank you, parents and carers, for all of your support over the past five years. It has allowed us to make the right decisions together and set your son/daughter on the path to success – I thank you all for that.

The journey isn’t over just yet, as we still have a couple of exams and revision sessions left – remember, these sessions will be either the day of or the day before the exam and will enhance their chances of securing their grade. I’ve attached the two week timetable below so you can see what days they need to be attending, along with the exam times and dates.

All students are expected to follow the school business dress code when attending their exams and revision sessions. Failing to do so,students will be sent home and will be unable to take their exams.

Thursday 23rd June marks the end of the GCSE exams. We ask that all lockers have been emptied by then and that students have returned their Chromebooks.  Chromebooks can be returned to the UTC office between 12pm and 2pm on Monday 20th June, Tuesday 21st June and Wednesday 22nd June 2022.

I know this won’t be the case, as your son/daughter is extremely mature and wouldn’t want to spoil their last day, but please be aware, if there is any damage made to the UTC, students found liable will have to pay for damages and we will have the right to hold back their GCSE results until such time as that payment is made.

I am extremely proud of every one of our students and I count myself lucky that I’ve been able to be a part of this special year group. It has been a pleasure getting to know each student, and watching them grow into positive young adults who are ready to inspire the next generation. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for them all.

Any questions about the exams or upcoming plans please feel free to contact me at ben.young@theleighutc.org.uk.

Kind regards,

Mr Young | Director of Learning – KS4
