Year 12 BTEC National in Business – Unit 2 and 3 Exams

Dear Parents/Carers,

Your child is currently studying for the BTEC National in Business. The course is assessed through a combination of internal and external assessment. In a normal year, students would sit two of the external assessments in Year 12 for which the grades can be ‘banked’ allowing them to focus on the remainder of the course (however students can be given a second attempt at the exams in Year 13 if required).

As you are aware the Government has announced that all official external exams are cancelled this year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. This means that the external exam that your child would have sat this summer is not going ahead as usual, and instead a Teacher Assessed Grade (TAG) will be generated for these units instead. Evidence for this TAG will be generated through assessments conducted in the classroom (and supported by other work completed in class). The assessments will take place on the following dates:

  • Monday 3rd May – Unit 2
  • Friday 7th May – Unit 3

These assessments are to be treated as official exams since performance on these will be used to generate the TAG. Your child has been supported with preparation towards the assessments during lessons and this will continue after the Easter break. It is vital that students use time over the Easter break to continue their exam preparation – the Google Classroom contains many resources that can and should be used to support their revision.

Yours faithfully,

Mr I Alade
