Students and staff at The Leigh UTC are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results this year, marking another milestone in the school’s commitment to academic and technical achievement showing students are excelling across academic and vocational pathways.
Overall, the school’s Attainment 8 score rose for all students by over a third of a grade, with notable average attainment increases for disadvantaged students and those with SEND. This year also saw the highest ever percentage of students achieving a grade 5+ and grade 7+ in English and mathematics, demonstrating the strength of teaching and learning across the core curriculum.
Mathematics continues to be a particular area of excellence at The Leigh UTC. 28% of students achieved the higher grades of 7+ in Mathematics, while an impressive 64% of students studying statistics secured grades 8 or 9. Students demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and consistently high attainment across all abilities. This year, many achieved top grades in mathematics, showing not only their individual talent but also the effectiveness of the school’s focused teaching and support in building confidence and mastery in this core subject.
English also saw significant improvements, with both English language and literature experiencing increases across each grade threshold. This reflects enhanced engagement with texts and improved skills in analysis and written communication.
The breadth of success across subjects has been equally notable. Over a third of students studying computer science, electronics, finance, or history achieved higher grades of 7+. Students continuing with the challenging language of German at GCSE achieved impressive results, with 80% passing at grade 4+ and 40% achieving a grade 7+, underlining the strength of The Leigh UTC’s technical and academic curriculum.
Among the many success stories were three exceptional students who achieved outstanding individual results and deserve additional recognition for their hard work and determination::
- Haider secured an incredible ten Grade 9s, the highest grade possible in every subject he took.
- Dideoluwa achieved six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s, an excellent set of results that reflects her hard work and talent.
- Benas has shown consistent dedication throughout his GCSE studies and, in most subjects, has exceeded predictions, making notable improvements since his last mock exams. He achieved strong passes in both English courses, a grade 6 in mathematics, and an impressive grade 8 in electronics.
Many of the Year 11 students will now progress to The Leigh UTC’s Post-16 provision, where they will build on their GCSE success through A Levels, T Levels, and specialist technical qualifications, further developing the skills and knowledge needed for higher education and industry.
Principal Kevin Watson said:
‘“We had felt for some time that this year group had a huge amount of potential, but potential alone isn’t enough, they still had to apply themselves with determination and commitment in order to access the excellent support that our staff provided. Their results are a reflection of that effort as much as their ability. We hope to see many of them return to our outstanding Sixth Form provision, but regardless of where their next steps take them, we wish them well. More than anything, we hope they will come back in the future to inspire the next generation of Leigh UTC students.”
The Leigh UTC congratulates all students on their achievements and looks forward to supporting them as they take their next steps.
