Course Description

Have you ever considered the different factors of digital media? This course explores the different ideas that influence product design, planning and business considerations such as the legalities of creating, producing and distributing digital media products. 

Throughout the course, you will:

  • Develop learning and practical skills that are applicable to real-life contexts and the world of work
  • Think creatively, innovatively, and critically
  • Develop your independence and confidence in creating digital content
  • Design, plan, create and review digital content

How will I be assessed?

This qualification is made up of three mandatory units:

  • R093 Creative iMedia in the media industry. This will be assessed by a 1 hour 30 minute written exam which is set and marked by OCR.
  • R094 Visual identity and digital graphics. This will be assessed by an OCR-set assignment (NEA) consisting of two practical tasks over a period of 12-15 hours.
  • Either R099 Digital games (NEA); or Unit R097: Interactive digital media (NEA). This will be assessed by an OCR-set assignment (NEA) consisting of three practical tasks over a period of 12-15 hours.

Unit R093: Creative iMedia in the media industry

In this unit you will learn about the media industry, digital media products, how they are planned, and the media codes which are used to convey meaning, create impact and engage audiences.

  • Distribution considerations

Unit R094: Visual identity and digital graphics

In this unit you will learn how to develop visual identities for clients and use the concepts of graphic design to create original digital graphics to engage target audiences.

Topics include:

  • Develop visual identity
  • Plan digital graphics for products
  • Create visual identity and digital graphics

Unit R099: Digital games

In this unit you will learn how to plan, create and review digital games. 

Topics include:

  • Plan digital games
  • Create digital games
  • Review digital games

What could I do next?

Having completed this course, there are many options available to you in the world of IT or Media design. The qualification will help you to understand different careers related to the media industry, the creation of digital media content and the skills required to work towards a specification and audience. 

This course is the perfect stepping stone to a T Level qualification in Digital Design. Or other qualifications at Post-16 such as an apprenticeship in Media or a range of business or IT qualifications.
