Dear Parents/Carers,
The Leigh UTC is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. We were authorised in 2021 to deliver the internationally recognised Middle Years Programme (MYP) to students in Years 7 to 9.
The MYP is an ambitious curriculum framework that aims to develop internationally minded young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers and lifelong independent learners. This is achieved through the many elements that make up the programme.
We would like to invite you to a presentation on Thursday 30th March from 17:30 to 18:00 where we will explain the different elements of the programme including:
- the IB learner profile attributes and international mindedness,
- approaches to learning skills,
- service as action and the community project,
- approaches to teaching,
- the assessment criteria that each subject is assessed against.
You will soon be receiving your child’s MYP Interim Report which will now show the levels achieved in the first half of this year for the four assessment criteria in each subject. This information evening will also give you an opportunity to understand your child’s report and how it can be used to support their learning. Please note that if you are a year 9 parent, you will be receiving their report during the parent/teacher evening on Thursday this week and subject teachers will explain the specific assessment criteria for their subject.
We know this evening will be incredibly beneficial for you as parents. If you would like to attend the MYP Information Evening on Thursday 30th March, please notify us by emailing info@theleighutc.org.uk with your child’s name.
Yours faithfully,
Kieran O’Donnell
Assistant Principal & MYP Coordinator
