Year 9 Key Stage 4 Options Process 2023

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Key Stage 4 Options Process 2023

Once we return to school following the Easter break, your child will start preparing for one of the most important periods of their educational life by selecting the option subjects they would like to study in years 10 and 11. The choices they make and their achievements in these courses will influence the future of their further education and career pathways. We recognise that it can be difficult for students to know which courses would benefit them most and therefore there will be lots of information and guidance available to support them with their decisions.

The options process will launch early in module 5 with a KS4 Options Information Evening on Tuesday 25th April from 17:30 to 18:30. During the evening you will have the opportunity to learn more about the KS4 curriculum and the exciting courses that are on offer as well as receive a copy of the KS4 Options booklet. Later in the week, students will have taster sessions for the subjects that they may not have experienced during key stage 3 – these will include Engineering, Electronics, Business Studies and Food & Nutrition.

In the weeks that follow, students will be invited to guidance meetings with a member of the senior leadership team. During these meetings we will provide personalised support to help your child decide on the most appropriate subject options. Once we have collated the choices from all students, we will do our best to make all the combinations work. Letters will be sent home before the end of module 5 to confirm your child’s final subject allocations.

Any queries, please contact me by emailing info@theleighutc.org.uk. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 25th April.

Yours faithfully,
Kieran O’Donnell | Assistant Principal
